Condo Hunting

Exhausting day today.

We saw 10 condo units - some very nice some not so much :)

Units downtown were disappointing - most were older, a little shabby, with very high condo fees.
The exception was on Queen St - a nice apartment with a beautiful view of downtown from the 17th floor.

Would it be ironic if after being involved in a downtown church while living in the burbs we moved downtown after switching to a church in the burbs ??

We really liked a couple of buildings on the mountain on Limeridge near Garth - newer units with reasonable condo fees.

Now I guess the next step is to list our house - once we do that we are committed & we want to be really sure before taking that step :)

I thought you were aiming for Burlington? :)

There are a few nice open-concept lofts downtown (if you like that - Spike does, I don't). On Bay Street (the old Bell building) ... on King William ... and on Hunter (just west of Locke). I've been through all of them. They're nice.

Again ... if you like open concept. And polished concrete. :)

Some of the open concepts are nice but we would prefer to have the kitchen area a little hidden from the rest of the apartment.

When we first started to look at condos we didn't realize Hamilton even had so many nice buildings & we thought the prices would be about the same as Burlington but we found that you can get a nice condo in Hamilton for $160K to $180K but in Burlington it's $220K to $250K.

Downtown or west mountain we are about 20 minutes from Community saving us about 15 minutes each way. Also we would have access to alternate routes if we need them. Now if we want to get to church in 35 minutes or seo we have use the QEW at least to get over the skyway & if there is a traffic tie up we are pretty much screwed :)

Everytime I look at condos, I keep looking at the square footage and wondering if it's enough.. what range are you and mom looking at?

The agent says about 1100 sq ft but I think that's a little generous :)
The buildings we like are ~ 25 years old & it seems like the older the building the larger the apartments.
Some of the 2nd bedrooms in the newer ones are glorified closets.
