Birds

We have had a second batch of robins hatched in our porch this year.

I have no idea if it was the same mother bird or if another family took over the nest after the first birds left - all robins look pretty much the same to me :)

This morning I was having coffee & reading the paper on the porch when the three baby birds took their maiden flight!!

What a commotion !! The mother & all the kids left the nest at the same time - wings flapping madly & all four of them chirping like crazy.

One on them almost landed on Zoe's head & in the strain of a quick course correction left a rather large dropping right between her front paws (could have been worse, I guess)

The three babies spent about 20 minutes flying short trips from our roof to the tree out front to the neighbour's roof & then back to our roof all the time loudly chirping away to the mother bird who seemed to be flying "shotgun" over the whole operation.

Now I guess I can clean all the bird droppings off the front porch - it seems that when the mother bird brought food to the nest she often felt the need to relieve herself :)
