Sunday Morning

Sunday morning found me & Zoe outside by 7:15 cleaning the snow from my driveway so we could get to church by 10:00.

By 8:00 I (and my trusty snow blower) had our drive and the neighbour's (the two driveways are kind of one big one) completed.

Zoe spent the time checking out all the scents in the neighbourhood and leaving a few of her own.

The neighbour's cat spent the time watching Zoe from the safety of their family room window.

It was very cool having the only clean drive on the street for once - none of the neighbours get up & go to church Sunday mornings, I guess.

I started thinking about not going to church, staying outside & doing another 3 or 4 driveways of people we know on the street (most of whom don't have snow blowers).
But then I thought "I can't. I have responsibilities at church. People are depending on me being there. I don't have the time."

Ever since though it has been bugging me "did I make the right choice?"

i think about that on sunday mornings too.

i try to make it up for it on the other days of the week - and the last time it snowed on a sunday, my neighbours returned the favour by doing our sidewalk while we were at church!

spike and i just had a frozen ham, sauerkraut and sausage dropped off today, since we "won't take money" for shovelling our elderly neighbour's walk. she's german, in case that's not obvious!

If you are a Christian, people are watching you. They will see that you did your neighbors driveway, and that going to church is important to you. That is called leading by example. You could offer to do the driveways after church on Sunday afternoon or even loan them the use of your snowblower if you felt comfortable with that. In my case, the neighbors are usually sleeping off the beer from the night before, so afternoons are better for them anyway. I Have helped them with their driveways when I can, and guess what? This past Sunday, they did mine, while we were at church, after the snowplow left a nice deep drift at the end of the driveway! That was an unexpected blessing.
I think you made the right decision. Who knows what seeds you are sowing through your faithfulness?

I think you should have gone with your gut and stayed home.

I appreciate Doug's point about faithfulness, and I probably would have done the same as you, though, and let my guilt convince me I should attend church.

Wouldn't it be great if we could get back to doing what Jesus said to do, instead of always having to babysit his followers?
