Car Pool

Today was my first day in a car pool.

Gas at over $1.25 per litre finally forced it upon us.

Four of us meet just off Guelph Line in Burlington and then in one car join the masses plodding off to Mississauga on the QEW.

We meet by 7:20 each morning & if anyone is late they have to buy coffee for the group. If more than one is late - the last arriving is on the hook. Seems fair but I may have a change of heart the first time there is an accident on the skyway:)

Does that mean you can drive in the HOV lane and thus arrive in record time?

if there was an HOV lane then we could indeed use it but alas one does not yet exist on the Burlington to Mississauga section of the QEW so we are doomed to as slow a pace as all the other driver only occupied cars.

bob has begun to bring up the topic of carpooling for me. he, of course, bikes and saves gas and the environment that way.

however, because of our somewhat shaky hours and differing schedules, i'm always apprehensive with counting on someone else leaving when i'd like to leave.

however, with gas today at 1.27, the conversation is worth having.

Car pooling is good. Because my shifts change every six weeks, that is hard for me to do.I heard gas is going up to $2.25 per litre by summer of 2009. That's enough to make anybody car pool or give up driving completely. I'm moving my job to Hamilton and eliminating the commute all together. I've received a call to go for testing on June 7th. Wish me luck!

In my driving expirence, the HOV lane never really took much time off my commute. When I drove for Chrysler and would sometimes car pool on long distances to pick up cars and such long distance, the HOV lanes always seemed just as busy as the normal lanes.

Car pooling does seem like a good idea however, if not for the envrionment than for the fellowship... if you can tollerate such :)

Hey, Bob, has the thought of getting a Harley crossed your mind ? Much cheaper: more fun: no waiting for others: follow your own schedule. One problem though: you'd have to stop at Tim's to drink your coffee. Take-out doesn't work in the saddle.
