Boys will be boys

Amsterdam has an ingenious way of keeping public restrooms clean.
Government officials etched what looks like a fly into the porcelain of public urinals.
When guys think they see a fly in the toilet, they aim at it.
Fly-in-urinal research (my new favorite phrase) documents an 80 percent reduction in spillage.
What gross genius!
Who knew this ersatz fly could clean up public restrooms just by giving people a target they could aim at!

I saw a sign in a washroom above the mens's urinal and it said,
" We aim to please, you aim too please!" They could have used that fly to aim at! lol.

That's funny! Not a surprise, but interesting that someone thought it up to begin with... and still funny.

If you did that in the women's washroom, they'd either leave or starting throwing toilet paper rolls or something at it.

Spike's been there.

He says he actually saw it - it's true.

Patti
can't take credit for "ersatz"
who ever wrote the original story should get the credit for that.

its cool that Spike experienced the ersatz fly - I, on the other hand, have had to make do with real flies on numerous occasions:)

If I'm correct, 'ersatz' is actually a dutch word. It means 'surrogate' or 'adoptive'. But I suppose to us, it means target.

At work, we get these little itsy bitsy black flies in the mens urinals. I have often wondered where they come from, because they are there all year round, not just in warm weather. they don't seem to do anything, and they don't move around too much. They are so small though you wouldn't want to try and aim at them, unless you were a sharp shooter with a scope! Maybe if we had that ersatz fly, it would act like an owl to pigeons amd scare them away?
Hey Bob, you're a scientist, what would those little black flies be?

Dougie - the most useful scientific term I could come up with is PEST.
There are some less scientific but more colourful terms available but we won't discuss them here:)

LOL @ Kelly !!!!

Doug if you had been in a porclain bowl and aimed at all day you might not have much energy to "fly" either lolol.

Bob? Don't you actually have work
to do?
