Las Vegas

Day One: up at 6 AM -leave the house by 7
At Buffalo airport by 8:30 for a short hop to Cleveland.
Small plane (dash 8) and very nice trip.
Cleveland to Las Vegas - not so good.
We found out those of us who book through expedia get the last choice of seating - not good
All 3 of us in middle seats - with her claustrophobia mrv doesn't do middle seats well - it was a long 4 hours : )
When we got to Las Vegas we found that Dollar Rent a Car did not have the full sized car we reserved so they offered us a Dodge Durango - a rather large SUV - which we took.
Our condo unit is great - almost new and very nice.
We had dinner at Fridays, visited the casino at the Sahara across the road from our condo and retired early - a long day.

Day Two: Decided to drive out to Lake Havasu City in Arizona. Its about a three hour drive through the desert and is home to the original London Bridge.
The desert was very interesting to drive through - lots of changes in vegetation and different rock formations to see.
Lake Havasu City turned our to be pretty much of a disappointment - not much there at all other than the bridge stuck on one end of a man-made lake. A saleslady told us all the snow birds had gone home and their season was over.
Stopped at Laughlin - a small group of casinos about 90 minutes outside of Las Vegas. Enjoyed a buffet diner and gambled a bit before heading home.
One problem both mrv and Aunt Barb have a hard time getting in & out of the Durango.

Day Three: Up early & head for the rental place to exchange the car. They give me a Dodge Magnum - mrv is much happier :)
While I'm doing that mrv calls Continental Airlines and arranges to have all three of us sitting together.
mrv is happy she has a window seat. Barb is happy she has an aisle seat. I'm still in the middle : )
We drive out to Primm at the California state line - 2 or 3 small casinos & a large outlet mall.
We stop at a new casino just outside of town - very nice - not too busy or smoky.
Ate diner at a prime rib place - excellent.
Finished the day at the Rio.

Off to Vegas

We leave Sunday AM for Las Vegas !!

We are staying in a two bedroom condo right on the strip - across from the Sahara for any of you who have been there.

MRV's aunt Barb (our favourite travelling companion) is coming with us again.
She's almost 76 - going on 15 : )

Barb went with us to Vegas a couple of years ago & announced she had 3 rules:
  • she didn't have a curfew
  • she didn't want to hang out with us all the time
  • what happens in Vegas - stay's in Vegas

Barb wound up being my "spotter" in the casinos. I would wander between MRV and her watching them play slots. Barb would rate the quality of the waitress in her area for me - letting me know if I should stick around for awhile & wait for her return : )

Sign of getting old - the women in your life go from getting upset when you look at some young thing in a revealing outfit to pointing them out to you.

I'll have my laptop with me so if anything interesting happens I'll do a Pastor Patti thing & blog my vacation.

Woohoo

Rode home last night from work with the top down & radio blasting.
OK, Tuesday night I had the top down too but I had the windows up and the heater on so it doesn't count.
It must be almost time for mrv to take her summer car back : )

Some great driving songs yesterday on Q107
It's Only Rock & Roll by the Stones
CC Rider by Mitch Rider & the Detroit Wheels

A couple of my favourite driving songs are by Golden Ear Ring
Radar Love
When the Bullet Hits the Bone

Any of you have any driving favourites??

Working From Home

I am supposed to have our quality manual finished by Friday for the lab supervisors to review. I'm close but still have some work to do.
My boss suggested I work from home a couple of days this week - away from the distractions of co-workers, phone calls & e-mails.
This morning I decided to stay home & give it a try.
I didn't miss the 45 minutes plus on the QEW & I really enjoyed getting out of bed at 7 instead of 6 : )
I was sitting in front of my laptop just after 8 with a coffee by my side - just like being at work so far.
With mrv off to the church I had the house to myself & actually got a lot of work done.
I noticed though that distractions are still part of life - just different ones at home.
  • the racket outside from the garbage trucks - have to have a look just to see how far they tossed the bins today
  • my dog looking in at me through the patio doors letting me know how nice a day it is & how nice it would be to go for a walk
  • mail
  • access to crossword sites & game sites that "smart filter" keep from tempting me at work
  • I know there is a baseball game on TV this afternoon (I love baseball)

I plan to work at home today and Wednesday then back to work on Thursday.

Except for the drive I miss being at work - I don't think I have the self- discipline to work from home on a continuous basis & all morning I wondered what goodies my co-workers were enjoying at break :)

The Last One

The bad news is that cake decorating class is now finished and we have received (and eaten) our last cake.
The good news is - it was chocolate & tasted wonderful.

Lynna hasn't decided what to try her hand at next - hopefully its something that results in us here getting more things to eat.

The cake arrived on April 1st - we called the folks downstairs to come up & have a piece but they didn't come up. When we questioned them the next day they said they didn't show up because they thought the call was an April Fools prank.
