As we only have one key that works easily for the dead bolt on our front door we decided Saturday afternoon to change the dead bolt assembly.

The B&B we stayed at in Meaford had the type of locks where instead of a key you type in a 4 digit number to unlock the door. These seemed very cool and modern so we wandered off to Lowe's to purchase one.

Arriving home we soon discovered our dead bolt assembly was too close to our latch to install this modern day wonder on our door.

Back to Lowe's to return the lock & pick up a regular keyed dead bolt.

Now I know its not rocket science to install one of these things but this thing proved to be difficult. I couldn't get the front & back to line up properly to get the two long bolts in. After much frustration & mrv's help I finally got the fool thing to align and finished the installation.

The key would not move in the lock!! Something inside was screwed up.

Now I had to go back to Lowe's yet again but mrv had gone out for awhile & we had no lock on the front door.

No problem - I'll leave Zoe in the house while I'm gone. A 100 lb. german shepard should keep people from wandering in unwanted.

Let Zoe in & discovered Greg (see my last post) had been outside & Zoe had been running her route around the backyard.

Muddy dog prints all over the hall floor.

Put the dog back outside, clean the floor & head back to Lowe's - by this time I really don't care if someone gets in the house.

By the way - did I mention I'm getting rained on every time I walk out of Lowe's ??

Pick up a 3rd lock set & head home - yes, I did get wet again.

This one went in in 10 minutes & required only one small adjustment to work to perfection.

Its hard to gain any satisfaction from an hours job that takes almost 5 hours to complete.

I did feel better after a great supper at Limoncello's though.

Crazy Dog

For the last couple of years my dog, Zoe, has decided she loves Greg, who lives directly behind us. Whenever Greg comes outside Zoe runs in circles along the back fence - wearing a path in the grass there.

Funny part is Greg doesn't really like dogs all that much (even Dexter, his own beautiful golden retriever) and pretty much ignores Zoe when he's out there. On the other hand, Greg's wife, Rosalie, loves dogs and always makes a point of talking to Zoe whenever she (Rose) sees her (Zoe) in the backyard.

Zoe pretty much ignores Rosalie and devotes herself to watching & waiting for Greg to appear.

Saturday afternoon Greg & Rosalie had some friends over and I figured having a 100 lb. German Shepard running back & forth along the fence all day must be annoying ( I know it really annoys me on my side of the fence ) so I decided to confine Zoe to the garage and the side of the house.

Zoe must have found that situation to be quite frustrating so after standing in the rain for a couple of hours listening to Greg party on his deck she proceeded to empty her water bucket (yes bucket - she is quite large & consumes a lot of water on hot days) all over the garage floor and try to pull the empty bucket through her doggy door.

The resulting din of metal bucket on cement accompanied by all types of canine noises was almost deafening and brought me running to the garage and probably a good number of neighbours to their front porches wondering what was going on.

Not a good day for Zoe:
  • too wet to be allowed in the house
  • banned from the backyard
  • very thirsty

A Couple of Days Away

We just came back from a couple of days at the Irish Mountain B&B in Meaford (between Owen Sound & Collingwood).

The weather could have co-operated a little better but it was nice to get away & the B&B was amazing -their view of Georgian Bay was voted 8th best B&B view in North America. (http://www.irishmountain.net/)

As this was our first B&B experience we wanted to make sure it was nice & we had plenty of privacy including our own bathroom - I can't imagine sharing a bathroom with people I don't know. Bob (our son-in-law) found the place somehow & surprised Chrissy with a weekend there. So we knew it was a very nice place. Each unit has its own completely private 2 person hot tub out on your deck.

The breakfasts were so huge we didn't eat lunch either day:)

We left Zoe at her doggy spa but the B&B owners have a German Shepard named Zoe who looks exactly like our Zoe - what are the odds?? They also are pet friendly with a 2500 sq. ft. dog run - maybe next time we'll take our Zoe.

John (the owner) has large sailboat he loves to take his guests out on. Mrv wasn't too crazy about the idea and as it happened the weather didn't allow sailing on Thursday - maybe next time I can talk her into trying it out.

We aren't hikers but there are many many trails in the area & I gather many of the people staying in the B&B are there for the hiking. John & Bobbi (his wife) are able to recommend trails that match your hiking abilities and experience. Listening to them was very interesting as they are both avid hikers and have travelled the world to pursue their passion.
