41 years

Today mrv & I were talking & realized that July 1st will be the 41st anniversary of our first date.

We went to the drag races in Cayuga with a couple who were mutual friends.

Mrv only went out with me that day to make my best friend Keith (who she really wanted to date) jealous. My what devious minds these young females have :)

But I guess I must have made a good impression because here I am all these years later wondering what to do on July 1st to celebrate the occasion.

Hmmm... I wonder if the drags are on ???

Pondering

I've been thinking about this whole homosexual thing lately and know that my attitude towards gays has changed quite a bit over the years.

But, I also realize that its easy to consider yourself liberal on the subject when you don't know any gay/lesbian people personally, anywhere - work, church or socially.

I wonder what my reaction would be if one moved in next door or the next new analyst at work was openly gay or if a gay couple wanted to make CF their church home ?

I know my reaction to each of those situations would be totally different today that it would have been 10 years ago but would they be the right reactions ??

Six random things

Here are the rules I am to follow:
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.
5. Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.
6. Let your tagger know when your entry is up.

1) When I was 4 or 5 I got dragged along behind a milk truck completely screwing up my knees.
Don't really remember how I got myself into that position but it probably seemed like a good idea to a 5 year old :)

2) My first car was a 1956 Pontiac in perfect condition (this was 1966) with a big V8 engine. I completely destroyed the engine & transmission in 6 months.

3) The first song I heard on #2's radio was "Summer in the City" by the Lovin' Spoonful.
I still love that song.

4) When I graduated from high school (1966) I took a job with Inco in Port Colborne figuring I would work there until Stelco or Dofasco started hiring again. I retired from that job after 37 years.

5) I got saved in a park in Dunville (truthfully it happened in my living room weeks before but this was the first public acknowledgement). As we (mrv & I) were standing in line waiting to be prayed for people in the line ahead of us started to fall over - my first official prayer was "don't let that happen to me" & it was answered.

6) I went to Guatemala through work for about 3 weeks. Loved the country & the people and want to go back again some day.

I don't know 6 other bloggers :)

Work Day

This morning (Saturday) CF had its first work day at our newly purchased building.

We took out pews & puplits, cleaned, washed walls, taped woodwork for painting, hung a new sign & cleaned up a disgusting alleyway.

Most of the "usual suspects" were there - you know the ones who turn up for everything.
All Roy or Patti have to do is turn on the lights & there they are :)

But what blew me away was who else showed up !!

  • 2 Mikes - both of whom are new to the church. One of them had just finished a 12 hour night shift & was waiting for Patti to open up the church at 8AM. He had all the pews unscrewed from the floor before the rest of us showed up.
  • Pastor Beyene - the Ethiopian pastor whose church meets at CF
  • Andy Busa brought 3 guys who are part of his upcoming missions trip
  • 2 ladies new to Canada & CF who cleaned all morning
  • Will - also very new to the church
  • Karen & Dwayne - Patti & Jeff's friends who came down from Toronto to help
