On Thursday all of our group from work went out for lunch at the Pickle Barrel - a bonding thing. There are four separate areas in our department and we are trying to build relationship (that word again) within the group.
The newest employee, a girl who grew up in Hamilton, was talking about working as a waitress while going to university. She worked for Red Lobster and regaled us with some very funny stories of things that had happened and some very odd customers.
She went on to tell us, though, that none of the staff liked working the early shift on Sunday because that's when the "Christians" come into the restaurant.
I'm afraid our reputation amoung the wait staff is very poor:
- we give the staff a hard time about "working on the Lord's Day". Very hard for non-christians to figure out what we are doing in the restaurant if we really believe this.
- we treat the wait staff very poorly yet expect the best in service
- we are very poor tippers. Leaving a pile of small change & a tract is not appreciated.
I didn't really know how to respond except to say not all Christians are like that. Her reply was that, in her case anyway, any who announced in some way they were Christian were that way.
